14. DIY Tulle Fairy Wand
Do you need an extremely easy fairy costume idea for young children? If so, then this might just be for you! This particular type of dress-up attire for girls is very popular with younger children because it requires no sewing or even gluing! Also, a majority of little girls have a tutu at home, add a matching shirt, and make this fairy wand and you’re all set! The only thing you need to do is use a few different craft items (listed below). I do recommend purchasing all of these craft supplies in advance since most craft stores are either closed on Halloween Eve, or they will still have extremely long lines that night. An added benefit of this type of fairy costume idea is that your little girl can wear it again when she goes to preschool in September since most teachers do not require costumes there.
Supplies needed:
- Styrofoam ball
- Straight pins
- Dowel
- Ribbon
- Butterfly
- Tulle
15. DIY Fairy Wings Tutorial
This fairy costume is simple yet elegant at the same time because you only need tulle fabric, ribbon, and some small elastic straps. Now even though this particular design has glitter on it, there are plenty of plain tulle fabric options available too. If your child prefers sparkles, then go ahead and buy the one with them but if she would rather her wings be silky smooth, then simply look for something that doesn’t have any glitter on it.
Supplies needed:
- Wire
- Scissors
- Glue
- Organza
- Toothpicks
- Nail polish remover
- Tape
How to Make a Fairy Costume that is Both Cute and Affordable
You will need the following materials:
- A white t-shirt
- A pair of scissors
- Glue or tape
- Construction paper or felt in various colors (we used pink, purple, and green)
- String or ribbon
First, cut the bottom off of the t-shirt to create a tunic.
Next, cut strips of construction paper or felt and glue or tape them around the bottom of the tunic. We made our stripes different colors, but you can make yours all one color if you prefer.
Once you have finished adding the stripes, tie a string or ribbon around your waist to cinch it in and give it more of a fairylike look. And that’s it! You now have a homemade fairy costume that is both cute and affordable.
If you want to take your costume to the next level, here are a few ideas:
- Add some glitter or sequins to the tunic for a sparkly look.
- Make a pair of wings using construction paper or felt. Attach them to the back of the tunic with glue or tape.
- Carry around a wand or magic staff made from construction paper or felt.
- Wear flowers in your hair for a natural look.
Now you’re ready to flutter around like a beautiful butterfly this Halloween! Be sure to share it with your friends so they can make their own fairy costumes too! Happy crafting!
